Not performance related, but I thought I would mention the fact that, yesterday, I received my complimentary copy of the latest edition of the Actors Yearbook to which the editor, Mr. Simon Dunmore, kindly allowed me to contribute an article. The article itself is aimed at those just leaving (or just starting) training, and so not directed at most of the forum contributors whom I know and love from CCP - but I trust it'll be of use to some aspiring actors.

Overall, however, I thought I would take this as an opportunity to plug Actors Yearbook. It has a great (and deserved) reputation, anyhow, but Simon always ensures there is significant new content every year, and this year is no exception, with great material on developing trends, such as open book accounting within fringe theatre and how it works, how to keep pace with digital presentation of your acting business, and training or working in the US. The listings of resources/directories of details (of agents, casting directors, showreel providers, photographers, production companies, script resources etc.) seem even more extensive than in previous years, and there are great additional resources like a calendar stating when certain companies prefer to receive applications, and run downs of e.g. actor tax status.

I won't personally stand to make any more money from individual sales of the work, so this is not a self interested piece of promotion for that reason: it simply struck me that Actors Yearbook 2013 really looks like one of the best editions yet. So, I'm proud to have my words featured in it, and would strongly suggest it's well worth investing in a copy!

What a pity about the error on the spine, though!

Is there an error on the spine, Sue? The date's correct, the spelling's correct, and the placing of the apostrophe is entirely consistent, reflecting the intention that it's a yearbook for actors (as a collectivity -rather than, say, the Writers' Yearbook or the Producers' Yearbook etc.): whether or not the apostrophe needs to be used is a moot point, I suppose, but, clearly, the Methuen proof-readers have adopted it as the standard usage throughout.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what you were alluding to. Is my copy different?

Congratulations Lee on your input to such an excellent resource for actors of all types in all areas of the business. I recommend it to everyone and personally prefer it to Contacts which I'm not really that interested in. I will definitely be investing in a copy once my finances allow me to and I look forward to reading your contribution.

Also, I wish to say to Simon Dunmore, if you see this thread, here is one actor who greatly appreciates all your hard work. I think your book is brilliant.

Best of luck and best wishes to all.

Lee - the spine says 2010 - 2011 but the front cover says 2012. The spine has to be incorrect, I believe. It should say 2011 - 2012, surely?

Well done, Lee, on your contribution; does this mean this year's edition comes in three volumes?

And Sue, as Lee is promoting the 2013 Actors' YEARBOOK, I'm sure he's profoundly indifferent to any trifling inconsistencies on the spine of the 2012 edition of the Actors' HANDBOOK which is, of course, a different publication altogether. (I think one's published in Hersham, the other in Horsham. It's a MINEFIELD out there.)

Well done again, Lee!

Best wishes to all.

Yes indeed, a fine reputation and my thanks to all who have put it together -to help us get it together... but there are still Pro's who do not know about it.

If I had not purchased a copy this year - I would not be on CCP, moving onwards and upwards.

Cheers

Thanks for that, Hugh. You are quite right, of course - the Handbook and the Yearbook are entirely different entities, and I didn't pick that distinction up! Just to confirm: it *is* the Yearbook I'm talking about, which is published by Methuen, not the Handbook.

Really enjoyed the article- I forgot you'd written something for the yearbook, so was pleasantly surprised to see your name, Lee.

This year's is packed with especially good stuff, I'm enjoying the advice on staying sane and making your own work...
