I am pleased to present for the first time , via ccp , a clip from the play , "Alcibiades" by Thomas Otway , the only restoration playwright , famous for tragedies in an age when everybody else was famous for writing comedies .

Hi first play , set in the greek spartan wars , with parallells to othello , hamlet and some other well known plays , but a greater insight into loyalty , reward and honour .
Not performed in 400 years and never filmed till now !! the rest of the film awaits ....what do you think ??

It's very well shot. The black and white is stark, but it works. You deal with the text well (good breath control!) and the make up job is first class. Does this play deal with the same Alcibiades that was featured in Shakespeare's Timon Of Athens?

I think your editor does a bit too much cutting from long shot to close up for my taste....I'd have liked to seen a little more use of a "slow zoom in" as transition between the wide and close up shots....then simply cut back to a wide if need be…..or even a very slow zoom in throughout perhaps - something like that I think would have increased the tension within the film maybe?

Nice still cam movement keeps it sharp, and maintains its over all power, and I thought it was well lit ….excellent makeup.

I think perhaps there are places you could have released your character a bit…..and then returned back to the controlled person again which maintains power and strength, perhaps even very quiet in places…..for the close up and whip back to the wide on a shout. Dunno….bit of experimenting on that would have been my choice prior to shooting. Maybe you did. I assume it was staged for the shoot and not shot during performance? Coudl you have also inc a slow dissolve to a side view here and there?

My guess is you did this on 1 x Camera as 2 x shots/setups....1 x wide and the 1 close up....so perhaps a 1/3rd set up could have been a couple of slow zooms in certain parts, just to give it variety.

Nice to see black and white for a change....it works v well on this piece.

Yup…I enjoyed it….v good for the reel this sort of thing! Who says a good monologue does not work within a showreel…of course it does!
