| Topic: Costumed Character Work | ||
|---|---|---|
| Hi guys - wonder if anyone can help me. I used to do costumed character work with an agency which has since folded. The work was usually in shopping centres and themed events. I would really like to do more of this kind of work in between acting work. Could anyone provide the names of agencies that would supply work in this area? Cheers Stewart | ||

| I used to do quite a bit of this north of the border but have yet to find a company down here that pays the rates I know they should. Particularly knowing I work hard on every job! If anyone that's currently doing these fun gigs while they are resting could PM me with details, I'd be very grateful as I could do with a bit of spare cash and a giggle! x | |

| It is £90 for the day. Usually four appearances of 40mins and one 30mins. It is getting near Christmas so usually get busier due to more events. Hope this helps! | |

| That seems quite a good rate especially for the time you're actually working! Thanks Kim. How does itcompare to the Scottish rates Tricia? x | |

| Not great, but perhaps that could be due to competitiveness? Both in terms of the actors available - meaning they will work for less and from the company point of view (i.e. lower quotes to get the work in the recession). From what I have seen of the jobs offered down here, it's not too bad. It could also be a case of less companies willing to shell out for this kind of work for their events that's to blame for the low fee, though I'd be surprised. Guys on stilts and whatsmore can command at least 3 times this fee, which is exasperating if their act doesn't include a lot of performance. I admit it's a skill though! Also I don't know if the fee mentioned above is meant to cover travel. I used to travel quite far and didn't receive extra for this. If you're travelling for up to 3 hours each-way, it really brings down the rate per hour as you could be doubling the time spent on the job. In the 15/20 min breaks you should get there's really not a lot you can do by the time you have de-costumed, so I would look at a 40 min performance slot as being an hour. I suppose it's how you look at it. If the job was close it wouldn't be too bad! And all money's good money for most of us right now :-) | |

| Hi Klwright, How would I go about applying to go on the books of Rainbow? Through the website or is there a more direct way or person I should approach. Sophie | |
