| I use Final Cut for editing and have long been a loyal Apple man. 3 Apple computers and an iPod Nano have all died on me in the past 10 years. As I sit here waiting for "the next available representative" to assist me shortly (forty minutes and counting), I've made a decision. I no longer love Mac. I hate Mac. I'm getting a PC... | ||

| Don't Do it!! There are Indie apple technicians in Bristol I believe who apparently are great... I've never had to use them though. As a Microsoft guy who saw the light 9 yrs ago I think it can only be a backward step! ;-) | |

| I sympathise...but I bet I can outdo your repair list with My windows and pc breakdowns and deaths!!! I would seriously re-consider your kit before going to PC Mind you the guts of the latest apple kit is no different to PC stuff now...but tghe apple opperating sytem is better? No viruses!! I use adobe premiere pro to edit on bespoke self built kit and it flys and works...but now and again it throws a paddy for no ruddy reason!!! Grrrr. And when it does I sit there thinking....should I go the mac route? Tricky!!! | |

| Appreciate your input. As you suggest, Mark, the new Macs are really just PCs with different operating systems. I know Vista was terrible but my experience of Windows 7 has been much better - another reason for switching. And, no, I'm not related to Bill Gates... | |

| Bill Gates owns 30% of Mac ;-) . Vista was a poor attempt at Tiger / Leopard! But Windows 7 is ok. As Mark says they've shared all the same components for years, but the proof is in the software. Bugs, viruses and crashes wise I'll always choose a Mac over a Microsoft. Especially for editing! | |

| I am called Apple in my house as a nickname - no idea why. I own an iMac, several iPods, an iPhone and an iPad (clue there somewhere I think!) One word - DON'T. These systems are the best around, if it is price driven then there are other options, if it isn't down to money - don't let the core go rotten! Apple are the best around. Keep with it. | Three Apple computers and an iPod Nano in ten years -- that's good! In ten years of PC use I've had much more failure than that. Currently I'm using PC but I'd rather be using Apple. Think twice before you switch allegiance. | |

| Not sure my input is needed looking at all the previous posts...... BUT I have to echo everyone else's opinions - DON'T DO IT! I have had my MacBook for 2.5 years and I really don't know where I would be without it. What a shame that you have had such bad experiences with your Apple products - have you been tested to see if you are a strange conductor of electricity that damages electrical appliances?! I use my MacBook every day for the usual stuff (web, email etc.) but also to run my recording business. It is so reliable and I love the fact that I can turn it on and just get started without all the Windows drama. Every time I am 'forced' to use a PC for whatever reason, I am reminded why I am an Apple girl and always will be. I urge you to reconsider (I feel like I'm back on the debating team at high school making my case!). Yours in Apple, Lindsxx | |

| http://www.brighthub.com/computing/mac-platform/articles/61641.aspx It's always quite funny watching Mac users defend their bright white stuff....and PC users defend their chunky towers and laptops! However, the simple facts are: PC's and Macs are now almost identical inside. Both are personal computers. (PC's!!) Both items contain Motherboards, Processors, Graphic cards, RAM memory, hard drives etc etc. The MAC PRO is an example of a PC which can be built, modified etc in just the same way and with just the same parts as a windows based PC. The one essential difference is SOFTWARE. Also, Apple ancillaries like Iphones, Ipods and so on.....all match each other very well. However with the advent of WINDOWS 7 operating system.....the two items have become very similar in use and in reliability. Windows 7 is what Vista SHOULD have been and wasn't....VISTA is crap...and that's that.....though there are plenty of Vista happy users of course. XP was good, Vista broke much of it though....windows 7 came along and all is well again in the PC world....ha...geddit PC world!! Macs can and do get viruses.....but in general....hackers prefer to attack PC systems....as most large corporate systems are PC and windows based. From a graphics point of view, video editing etc....I would say Macs do probably rule, because of the lack of viruses and the reliability factors of the software. A Mac Opp system....is simpler in construction to Windows. Macs are very fashionable and that is the result of very very clever marketing......they are also far more expensive!! I bet there are several reading this who are doing so on a mac....why did you buy a mac....coz it looks good....Go on admit it...there are some of you who cannot deny that was your reason!! There is much more software available and its cheaper for a PC than there is a for a mac. So as you can see it's all swings and roundabouts at the end of the day and it depends what you use them for that counts. For Video and high end graphic work....if I could afford it....I'd prob go the Mac route. For general office and surfing, web use and emails....i'd buy a windows PC and save a lot of money, to have something just as good....and cheaper to put right and easier to put right too. | |
