Am i going crazy?

I may regret this and will hide in shame when I get the look of pity from peers and friends that I've worked with.I do feel i need some honest advice and opinions from fresh faces.

I graduated in 2006 from a great school and was lucky enought to land a fanatatice job when i left.Unfortanitly it kinda feels that all my hard work is starting to slip away. The time i left college i thought I bagged a top agent, I chose him because i thought if was a little scared of his status id allways keep on top of my craft and work hard instead of lapping up comments that in the long run would make me arragont. However the cracks started to surface despite really trying to get on his good side. The last straw for me, I felt and still feel was being sold out on a very cheap show( great choreography though)where i basically covered 6 roles( 4 swing tracks and 2 first cover) for only ensamble wage and got my self in to financial trouble doing it. But at the time i was thrilled to get another job and blishfuly unaware of being paid equity rates.Thats the business! and now i know what i should of been paid.Allthough you would think my agent would fight my corner?
The funny thing was When i questioned it to my agent as I really wasnt happy throughout the contract. I was told "to a try and get through and possible get a drinking problem to cope with the work load! and that ive sighned the contract and if wanted out id prosibly be sued". Thats nice, so it was time to find an new agent.

Agent number 2.I was so pleased with their new energy, focus and was very attracted to them as they were young agency.Even got myself 4 jobs to show that im motivated and not someone who expects the phone to ring. I was really excited about working as a team and really building a strong relationship. Most importantly get working on strenghting my craft. Its
not happening at all, which is such ashame I was so hoping to work. For expample, things like "singing workshops and audition technique" that was promised to me when sighning. To see where i can improve and just generall tabs on both the client and the agent. Just havent happened and believe me ive made servall attempts to kick start this.

So you may think "get an new agent".

Tried.. As im not in anything i cant show case any talent and simply my cv just isnt enough.I have to admit ive not done very well in some auditions as my confidence in the business and myself has gone to pots.Thats both our fault for me feeling so doubtful and not good through my agents eyes. On many occasions ive thought maybe this isnt for me? and to be honest i do find it hard to start afresh as its not been fun working with agents so far.

Something tells im not finished yet!ever get that feeling?i just need fresh eyes and a new and agent that wants to work together.I do feel that somethings not right and i need to change it before its too late and all my work gets poured down the drain.

So i ask who evers reading this am i going crazy? I hope not, as its not a quality i can add to my spotlight link.
Thanks for reading this and i hope i havent offended anyone but im just stating the facts.

Hi Karl,
Sounds like that first agent was more interested in the commission fee than placing you in a gig that would enhance your CV & subsequent career opportunities.I used to be an agent for 3 years, having a background in business & marketing before I finally went to drama school
in 2002 so I've got an inside view of how they work & it's just as competitive for them at times as it is for us,however, the artist should always have the final say on what work they agree to take on & contract terms & conditions.
It's very easy to get caught up in the excitement of the moment when being booked on a gig & then later getting 'stiched-up' on what's expected from you & the relevant fee!
I've just come back from that experience shooting a commercial abroad where the client was in 'cloud-kookoo land' in wanting dangerous stunts carried out without proper planning, health & safety which is why it was being shot in a former Eastern block country where H/Safety is very lapse & the labour force 'cheap as chips'! I was royaly 'stiched-up' all round & I'm someone who is used to seeing contracts in place before agreeing to do anything! I got caught up in the moment & paid for it later!
There's another thread going on this forum at the moment called'What work is out there?' & I recommend worth a read of other actor's thoughts & comments on this subject; In the meantime,keep positive & above all,patient...There's always another opportunity on it's way;
A day's a long time in this business!
Best,
Charles

...I have to mention, my recent 'stich-up' commercial experience was not my agent's fault; We both got 'hoodwinked' on this one !

Hey Carl,
Often when we're trying to achieve something we don't reach our destination straight away or without obsticles. It is more like a journey where we gain insight, learn and discover new directions and openings on the way. It is always worth finding other ways of earning even if it means getting some training because getting yourself out there costs money and requires you to stay active with or without an agent. When the times right it will come to you. Have faith x
