I normally try to maintain an optimistic attitude when things go wrong but today I am breaking that rule!

Last year I auditioned for a low budget but Equity rate paid film and was contacted the next day to offer me the lead role. The words "offer" and "lead role" were the clue here! After several meetings, many phone calls and emails over two months to discuss the character, shoot dates and venues (and me asking when the contract would be ready for me to sign - always "next time" or "in the post by the end of the week"), I gave up expecting anything and put the project out of my mind. Two months later, I got a text from the director to say he still wanted to go ahead but was going away to get married and would contact me when he returned. I decided not to be too optimistic about this considering his previous form! About 3 months later, I got a Friend Request from him on Facebook and responded with a message asking what was going on with the film. No reply. Once again, I put it out of my mind.

Last week, whilst browsing the internet for unsuspecting film companies to whom I could send my showreel, I came across the director's brand new website complete with a trailer for the finished film. Although I had by now assumed it was not going ahead and had completely put it out of my mind, I was a bit miffed not to have at least been sent an email or text to let me know this, considering I had been quite involved so I sent the director a polite email basically wondering what his reasons were for not keeping me in the loop. He did at least have the courtesy to reply and informed me that he had rewritten the script and that I was no longer suitable. Fair enough. What p***** me off was his comment that he "didn't remember casting" me and that we were "just discussing the project"!!!

Having had my rant, I can now put this ridiculous episode behind me but would be interested in any comments you lovely people have!

Sounds like the guy was just being an ass and messing you about. It happens to all of us.

I was cast in a film a few years back, i had the shot dates, contract signed and lines learned. About month 2 go the Dirctor and producers just dissapered and 3 years on i still havent herd from them. Some of the other actors in the got in touch and said the same thing.

As an actor i think theses things will happen to you. Apart from finding them and giveing them a good beating theres not much u can do xx

You probably had a lucky escape. Anyone behaving that bizarrely and unprofessionally isn't worth working with.

Onwards and upwards to better things!

Agreed! I have always felt that it's not about us actors desperately needing work - it's also whether you want to work with them! It's a two way deal and many actors tend to forget that.
Personally I take my career very seriously and do NOT want to work with unprofessional people. So...yes,I do think fate has worked to your advantage here. Who'd want to work with these cowboys anyway?!

I have nothing further to add as everyone above has said everything perfectly.

I am just sensing the complete sigh of relief that followed 'getting this off your chest'. See, it really does help to verbalise, doesn't it?

Bad things will always happen and it's surely the way we deal with them and get on with our lives openly and positively that will move us forward.

All the best for your next project! Glynis x

Thanks guys for all the helpful input. I agree wholeheartedly with all of you! It was more of a case of "getting it off my chest" and it's worked!

All the best

Karen

I think you were very brave contacting him and asking him why he'd not kept you in the loop. It shows you have healthy self-esteem, courage, determination and honesty - all great qualities which will assist you in your future career. As to him, a liar, a wimp and a fantasist - you are so well out of it!
