Hi guys, have a quick question for you.

I have several DVDs if various projects now and I want to play around with editing and stuff to see what I can swing together (not for professional usage, I'm currently sourcing and waiting on stuff) from my own work and work on my editing skills.

Only, I can't open anything to edit/cut it. Any one have any info for me being able to do this? I have a Mac Book Pro currently.

Thanks in advance.

iMovie can cut it or Final cut. If you are mac book pro stretch to Final Cut Express it's worth it.

Also you can use http://www.squared5.com/ for dvd's authored on windows.

I'm mac based so can help with all questions re edit +

Thanks.

Whenever I try to drag or load it in those systems it tells me it cannot be opened. Am I doing something wrong?

Yep you can't drag and drop on FCP or FCE - you have to import. File Import.... However on iMovie .mov files and Mpeg4 's can be dragged in. Also make sure you keep media in one place otherwise FCE and FCP can show media offline if it has to keep going to find it.

Hi Jodie,

Also, if the dvd is regularly formated the files will be VOB type things which you'll need to convert into mov. avi. or mp4.
You can download free software for this

Drag or copy the VOB file/s on to your hard drive. Once they are on your HD...change the end .VOB to .MPG job done!

As with any DVD ripper or change to the VOB file....make sure your vocal and video are fully and "exactly" in Sync...!!
