| On Monday evening I was on my way to an audition in Brighton for a panto that's running just before Christmas. Having had trouble on the jubilee line to get to London Bridge, I was alredy running late. I spoke to the director to tell her that I'd be running late and she said to come along still, so I bought my train ticket and jumped on the next train only to get delayed around Gatwick Airport due to signalling problems. I knew that they were only meant to be in the audition space until 9pm (my adution was originall at 8.15pm) and it was looking increasingly likely that I wasn't going to be there before 9. I was getting tired, grumpy and was ready to go home at any minute. I carried on, however, and arrived at the station pretty much dead on 9pm just as the director was calling me. I told her I'd arrived and was on my way (the auditions were about 15 minute walk from the station). She stuck around, I stormed the audition (somehow!) and was pretty much offered the part there and then. Now I'm waiting to hear about dates and hoping that dates don't clash for a play that I'm AD'ing in December in London! So the moral is, just keep at it, if you give something a try it might just be worth it even if you're not necessarily feeling up to it. People appreciate it when they see you've made an effort. | ||

| Sounds so simple...but you calling the director and letting them know..keeping them informed of your journey probs etc....that told her plenty about you as a person, way in advance of the actual audition. I could write a book on actors not turning up for auditions....or v late for auditions and then accusing me of wrong directions when others were finding the location without problem...and so on. | |

| ALWAYS, always let someone in the team know if you are running late, even if you haev to resort to a text. Make sure you get a contact telephone number in advance.I very often find I have to request one. They know what transport hassle can be - however early you set out. | |

| Guys As a lot of you will know I wrote a piece recently entitled "time up for an actor?" and I was PM'd by loads of people (thank you by the way - again!). I wont name the person but I was recommended a book to buy which addressed a lot of my fears and doubts. I bought this book on the back of another 2 rejections for "waking the dead" and "hustle" and it has totally made me re evaluate how I look at things. Without detracting too much from the original thread (which I thought was fantastic - and WELL DONE, I have pasted a few words below (albeit paraphrased in parts) to let you know that when you are down ... It's always worth carrying on (see, that's why I put it on this thread!!!) All the best and keep on trucking! This is it:- I constantly tell actors that auditioning is a numbers game, an actor who goes for 25 auditions and commits to the same levels fully will eventually get a job. There will always be reasons that you don't get the job even if you give the best audition of your life because you will be too old, too short, too tall, too thin or you will remind the director of an ex boyfriend/girlfriend, basically no matter how well you do, it's out of your control! Just remember that when you audition there will be certain dynamics:- You will not get every job you are seen for. You will think you have absolutely nailed it - and then hear nothing or get a "no". You will be competing against mobile phones, laptops, pagers and lunch and ultimately you will read with people who can barely do that let alone act! What pearls of wisdom eh? JB x | |

| Amongst other things it's a business being an actor & you have to be an 'Actorpreneur' ! | |
