hi all!
Head shots are boring right? Or maybe its just mine... :/ Well, anyway now that CCP are allowing colour headshots I don't suppose this includes modelling shots?? I'm asking because I got new modelling shots done on location and I would really like to put them up on my profile. I feel that potential employers would understand my 'look' much better with the modelling shots than my headshots.
I understand the reasoning behind having these simple style photos but I guess I'm just bored of looking at my face.
What do you guys think?

Hi - I think you can actually have modelling shots on your portfolio, but a main headshot really should be just your head, a bit of neck, perhaps a shoulder(!).

Imagine you were casting something yourself? You would get a small photo of a person and their main details to start with. Only if you are interested would you click through, and if in that small photo you're not selling your face, it might not sell you as well as you think.

My advice would be to get a good colour shot, or crop one of your modelling ones to use as your colour 'headshots' and include any other shots in your portfolio. You can always refer a casting director to the portfolio in your cover letter.

It's my opinion only but I hope it helps! x

This is a casting website for actors - not models. There is a massive difference.
Leave your model portfolio for websites like Promo Jobs Pro.

Lizanne that is a pretty harsh response to a young newcomer looking for advice! Maybe you should take a leaf of your own advice then and remove your 'modelling' credits from your Acting CV - and post those only on Promo Jobs Site!

I believe that the more photos with different looks, the better. Nothing wrong with modeling photographs; just keep your headshot as the main photo.

You would say that - you're a modelling agency.

By the way, these were castings and jobs I received via my CCP Profile.

But thanks for checking out my profile.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having additional character photographs on your CCP profile, but you MUST have a traditional 10 x 8 black and white headshot as your main photo, if you want to be taken seriously by most casting directors.

I'm not sure about specific modelling shots - maybe some of the CDs/Agents that do peruse this forum could give you some advice?

Hey!

I agree with Claire, have lots to choose from in your portfolio, be it black and white/ colour, production shots and modelling (especially if they are of your whole body and characterful) as it would help with the more commercial castings. Then keep your normal headshot as your default and if you want CD's to look at the portfolio, tell them about it in your cover letter.

The more range you have the more likely you'll appeal to more people casting.

Hope that helps!

You can add modelling shots. I have one uploaded and it makes a nice contrast.

I see no problem having some modelled photos on here, esp if it helps show a 'look' that's perhaps not obvious from your headshot. Remember though, you can only use the headshots to apply for jobs and always have a headshot as your main picture, or else you will be seen to fall into that 'model not an actor' category.

I have done a fair few modelling jobs and as much as they're not all on my CV on here, some are and so are some photos because from time to time, modelling jobs or jobs that require some photographic experience crop up on here.

So, have a couple of varied shots to add something extra to the portfolio but be careful not to make out your a model doing acting, but vice versa! Hope that helps a smidge! :)

I guess there's no problem putting some full-length shots up, but the thing with headshots is it's all about the eyes. So a CD will want to see what you communicate with your face and whether the face is good for what they want. My headshot photographer (an expensive, high profile one and even he struggled to get a representative picture out of my fiendishly hard-to-photograph face!!) says the minute an actor walks through his door he's assessing the eyes and mouth because that's what makes a statement with women. So headshots are the way forward for serious acting roles (of which I have very few, admittedly, am still looking for a psychotic police detective/mistress type role!!) not full length. xx :)
