| ...but.... I did a student film back in March (yes, a student film, 'how many more rants on this?' I hear you groan) which actually went quite well. The production team were a little hard to work with, a little bit too relaxed considering their actors had travelled far and wide, but overall it was good fun and worth the effort. Made some good contacts for the future. And had everything paid for - so no loss to me. This was in March. Towards the end I asked the question on when the final cut will be ready to be sent out. 'Early May' was the response. 'After submitting it to the examiner etc etc'. Fair enough, was my response. Come the end of May I send an email to the producer simply enquiring to the progress of the final edit. 'Start of June' was the new date. So I stop asking. Simply because I got the feeling that I would be told when it was done. Following a conversation over coffee with a friend of mine I get a text in the evening - 'Loved the short you did. Really funny. Good stuff.' Hang on...that particular film wasnt finished yet...or so I thought. The video (in three parts) had been uploaded to YouTube...and had been there for about a week and a bit... I check my inbox, no email. I check my junk mail, no email. No texts. No calls. Nothing. Is it wrong of me to be quite annoyed that no one had thought to extend a little courtesy and tell the actors involved that their footage was up and ready to be viewed. That I have to find out through a third party who frankly had nothing to do with it! I couldnt help but think how unproffesional it must seem on me to not know of something as basic as the film being avilable for viewing -.- Surely it's not just me? Just a little text with the link to it would have been fine. I still haven't had the DVD copy in the post either... | ||

| something similar has happened to me this year. the short wasnt on youtube, but screened at two film events in town. was annoting when i got the message from someone saying they had seen me in the film oh well... i hope i get a copy eventually. it was a great team to work with and i'm sure there is a great reason for them not keeping me updated (i would have at least liked to have been told about the screening, even if they didn't burn a dvd for me by then). but ill wait and see if they get in touch. | |

| Of course you're not wrong for being annoyed!! I would contact them again, and tell them exactly what you think... and ask them why they think its ok to not notify the actors?? There is nothing wrong with student films, and admittedly I have seen some great material - However, down to all the constant problems, I wont do them without being paid now... I cant afford to take a day off work to film, and never get the finished product. Its a shame. Good luck x | |

![]() anonymous | Very annoying Mark, but on the plus side if you go to keepvid.com you can convert what's on youtube(or re-format it, or whatever it's called!!)and download the straight to your CCP profile and you don't need to wait for the showreel. I guess you can't edit it, but if you have an obvious role and just want something up quickly to tide you over, then you could try that... :)Vanessa |

| Write to the college principle, tell him/her, that the very reason you did this was to gain showreel material......why else? Insist you get the DVD Copy of the edited film, or the rushes within 7 days...or you will take the matter further. Also if you are given some bullshit about its because the film is being entered for film festivals…..how come its on youtube then? That breaks festival entry rules!! You of course made them sign a contract to say that you will be given an edit of the film for showreel purposes, and the time scale in which this will happen?!! Hmmmm?!!! Leson learned….and how many times does it have to be said. However, you've been unlucky here….so get straight on to the college principle, and do not let it go!! Yes you can download a version from youtube....but you want and need the high resolution version, in order to be able to edit it in with your showreel! Write to the college principle now...before the students break up and leave the college. It's about time film schools colleges were made to sign an official protective declaration assuring professional guest actors will not be treated in this way. Good luck, and keep us informed of your progress. | |

| What a joke! Yes I too would be most annoyed if I wasn't told.. I did a short film back in November.. Wow seven months ago now. It wasn't a student but a film made by a producer/writer/comedian who has worked on a lot of well established TV/stage work. He was in and out of contact saying that some scenes still need to be filmed, it's nearly finished, blah blah blah. The last time I've heard from him was a good two or three months ago now. I don't know what stage it's at. I emailed politely a week or so ago and haven't received a reply. I mean it was only going to be 10 minutes max?! At least yours is finished I suppose! | |

| I feel for you, some people get away with too much, you might be better off getting it off your chest and moving on,if it was me I would be on at them and their college in a polite way, you have worked for nothing and done a great job by the sound of it,its not good enough,as for still not getting a copy I would hunt them down. They are students and they have to learn how to treat actors the same way as we know how to behave in a professional manner, dont let it lie brother. | |

| Hey stranger! I found out the film was on YouTube too and sent him an email saying I wasn't happy about it. I think it's really unprofessional. He could of have the courtesy to let us all know. I might even contact the college too. As this isn't a good thing to encourage. Hope you are good! | |

| All, Thank you for your thoughts/opinions/horror stories. I'm gonna draft up and send an email out to the producer tonight, requesting the DVD be sent out to me and expressing my displeasure with how it has been treated. Freya, Good to hear from you. Hope you're well and keeping busy. The show you were doing went well I trust? If you're thinking of writing a letter out to the college, I wouldn't mind getting in on that or at least putting my name on it. I think coming from more than one person will result in less chance of it falling on deaf ears. Let me know. | |
