| Topic: Printing Headshots? | ||
|---|---|---|
| Hi guys. Could someone please point me in the right direction to a place where I can get my head shots printed out I need to send out my agent letters etc. Is there an actors photo lab that is great to go to with good rates? Regards Rob | ||

| I wish there was! I think the normal places- Image Photographics, visualeyes etc are the best port of call. Expensive but sadly the actors lot. | |

| I got excellent quality with my HP photoprinter inkjet thing. Just got photopaper and photo ink. Granted, the cost of that would be more than ordering - so if it's an occasional thing then do that. | |

| Maybe this is just me being a photo printing nut, but I would definitely advise against photo printers unless you're in a rush. The look and feel of a home-printed photo versus a lab printed one is completely different to someone who looks at a lot of photos. With an expensive, professional home printer, you can get gallery-quality prints, but then it's suddenly a LOT more expensive. Your prints are probably quite good-looking, but they'll be -different- from the other photos they're looking at, which might end up going against your favour by feel alone if you're really unlucky. The way an 8x10 is printed by a lab (light-sensitive emulsion-coated paper and chemicals) makes it slightly resistant to water. One drop of water on your home print and that area becomes a massive smear. You can drench a lab printed photo with no ill effects as long as it's left to dry with nothing covering it. There are longevity issues as well, but that's hardly important for this purpose. Finally, like you said yourself, it's just a lot more expensive. Like, A LOT. In a rush, it's probably fine, but best choice is always to have it professionally printed. | |

| Actually, has anyone tried Foto.com for poster-size prints? I've got a portrait someone did for me that I'm looking to print quite large, and they're one of the few places I've found online that does photos AND really big posters. Oh, and before you think that I'm so big-headed that I'd want it to be literal (HAW HAW HAW, GEDDIT?! ... Oh dear.) I'll show you the portrait, just so you can see that it's all in good fun: http://mikerooth.com/gallery/images/MAGNUS_Rooth.jpg I've always wanted an 80's epic fantasy style portrait. Now I have one. ^_^ (The guy does commissions, by the way. ^_^) | |
