Well, according to 'The Stage':

BSkyB buys Virgin Media Television for £160 million!

Well, Virgin Media have decided to exit from TV production, over their lack lustre performance. Is it really a surprise move, I think not.

There was no real - innovative TV production going on at Virgin. It was obvious - from what they were churning out, that they would win no prizes.
Now that ITV are moving away from drama production, what can the viewer expect. Football is the only winner at ITV. More money to grossly overpaid footballer out on a beer binge!

Over at the BBC we have a blotted public organisation - that thinks it can do anything, with impunity. It too thinks it has no public obligation to provide good drama. Reality TV is the by word here.

Yet the BBC state they have to reduce fees to performers, yet still vastly overspend on anything and everything. Anyone who thinks that Mark Thompson is the man, to tackle overspending, needs to look much deeper.

There are always talkers, but very little doers in the hierarchy at the BBC, sadly. It is now such a huge organisation. It has lost its way. I cannot see how such a huge organisation can ever return to its grass roots. Nothing I have seen of late, has changed my attitude.

Yet the BBC call for support from Equity members. They do not earn that support. So, who should we give it.

If you throw enough money at something then of course there will bound to be - some success. But if that amount of money was put into another TV & Radio channel, would we get a better result?

The jury is out on this conundrum...

Virgin seems to be everywhere, making loads of money on so many projects. It just goes to show, no matter how much success you've had, you can still fail.

Agreed Clive things are certainly up in the air Production / Broadcast wise.

Unfortunately, I now view Sky, BBC ,ITV Channels 4 and 5 + as little more than servers.....

This being the case I see a situation in the not too distant future where Production companies go directly to the market and unfortunately only through an internet plugged to your Tv (As with Nintendo Wii and X-box +)..... Watch this space!!

Well 'The Stage' thought the issues raised in my latest letter were news-worthy...
