According to 'The Stage', yesterday, there is a 1/3rd increase in candidates standing in the latest Equity Council elections...

Why is there a 1/3rd increase in those standing???

Why is it that the average age of those standing appears to have fallen???

Is it because that young Equity members are not happy with the way the union is currently being run...

Or, on a positive note...

Is it because they are very happy with the way the union is currently being run and want to participate...

Or is it a bit of both???

Let us get every single one of our Equity members voting - especially for younger candidates with - fresh ideas!

I shall venture in here for the first time and say maybe we young members are standing because it's time for a change and time to have a fair representation of all ages of members on council. :p

I just hope that just as there has been an increase in candidates there is an increase in people using their votes! *subtle hint to Equity members on here*

I am very pleased the younger actors are standing altho I specifically voted for members to run the council who are regularly working as they have an idea of the culture out there.

The biggest threat to actors today is despicable low pay or no pay. We all do it cos we need to work but we rarely get a choice. Hopefully it will be dealt with.

The industry is changing, more people are creating their own work and delivering workshops etc to bring in extra cash - the union needs to change to reflect that! IMOH ;o)
VOTE folks!

The debate on voting for factions - is raging on the Equity forum, if anyone is interested...

To register for the Equity forum you will need your membership card. Type in your membership number first. In the top right hand corner of your membership card you will find, in small letters, your card I.D. number.

Then you can register & log in...

Click: http://www.equity.org.uk/register.aspx?from=/login/Forum/default.aspx

It is your union, so make sure you use your voice!
