| Topic: Advice for an agents interview | ||
|---|---|---|
| Hi all I am having my first meeting with an agent on Wednesday. They have said it will be an informal chat. Any advice would be welcomed. List of do's and don'ts etc for the interview. What do you wear to an informal chat? A suit seems too formal. Thanks in advance Laura | ||

| I would say smart casual. Its a business interview after all! But just ask questions along the following- 1) What do you see my type as? 2) How would you sell me? 3) Do you expect me to report back after auditions? 4)Is there a trial period? 5)What do you expect of me? 6) How often do you want me to check in and call? 7) Are you happy with me seeking my own work?( Some agents aren't!) 8) What is the commission? 9) Who are the casting directors you have contacts with? And just be yourself! X | |

![]() anonymous | Hi Laura! Exciting news! Welldone for getting the meeting. It might be worth having a little monologue up your sleeve, just in case they ask you. Have a look at whysanity.com (or co - I can never remember!!) for some low-key TV and film monologues. They have a list of females monologues which you can sift throigh - I used the one from the French Lieutenant's Woman (shortened a bit) which has a nice range and can help to demonstrate versatility with delivery and emotions. You have a lot of theatre experience, so it ight be good to show your capabilities on camera, too. (I see you also have a showreel, which I expect the agent has looked at). Like Blake says, dressing smart casual (which means many things to many people!) is good (I can't remember what I wore to my chat - a black dress and pumps with a denim jacket over the top I think - something simple that won't distract them from your face). Be focussed and professional and stress your drive and ambition. They'll know within a few minutes whether they think you're marketable and if you fit the gap in their books in terms of type. Enjoy the moment! And LOADS of luck! Let us know how it goes :) x |

| Hiya! Good luck at yr informal chat with agent. I had to go thru the same thing as you about 3yrs ago so here's a couple tips! Wear something smart but casual, perhaps jeans with a nice shirt and jacket, not too much make up cos they want to see the real you!! Bring any cd, DVD recorded footage of u in action so that they can view it there and then or that they can watch in their own time and state clearly that you need it back !! Othwerwise they may bin it?! So arrange an appt to go back and collect it all. Bring different headshots with u! And discuss which ones they will use for tv, theatre, stage and screen. So that u r in agreement about the pictures being used. Discuss their rates cos sometimes , most agents charge a different percentage depending on what the job is? My agent charges 10% fr theatre but 15% for tv and 20% for film! Ok I think that's it! And just be yourself!! Good luck honey! Linda John-Pierre x | |
