New figures published yesterday reveal that since April the Employment Agency Standards inspectorate (EAS) has won back nearly £200,000 in unpaid wages for agency workers. This is treble the amount clawed back in the previous year.

Employment Relations Minister Lord Young said:

“EAS has achieved some notable successes, recovering more money than ever for agency workers and increasing awareness of their work amongst employers as well as employees. I am confident they can build on this success."

Agency workers can find out more about the rights they are entitled to by visiting www.direct.gov.uk/payandworkrights or by calling the Pay and Work Rights helpline on 0800 917 2368

and your point is? These payments were warehouse, factory, cleaners and other blue collar type workers! Creative agencies and employers are much harder to track down as they work out of temporary offices and non fixed location!

Interesting point Forbes...

The type of 'workers' I think you are referring to - work for an 'employment businesses', not through an 'employment agency' - who are totally different.

In an employment business, temporary workers, work for that business.

We work through an employment agency, that is totally different.

I think you're playing with words Clive and my point remains valid!

What percentage if any of the money recovered went to actors, extras and/or models...or anyone else involved in the entertainment industry for that matter?

I am not playing with words...

As to what these figures represent, I know nothing more than what you can see from the press release...

If you want more details then you can contact their ress office.

You will be pleased to hear that I have just written to the Head of Employment Agency Standards, as per the following:

Your department put out the below mentioned 'Press Release' last week, that your have managed to claw back triple the amount of unpaid wages, by agency workers.

Can your department tell me the figure, for the same period, that was clawed back from employment agencies in the entertainments industry? That is, providing you can find them of course. And, can your department provide a figure for the amounts, you were not able to claw back, for those in our industry?

Hopefully, we might actually find out a little more - on this subject...

I await his response with baited breath and will be more than happy to retract my critism if any of the money recovered is proven to have been paid out to anyone involved in our industry!

I've read the article and it's a typical government press release designed to reassure the populous that the department in question is actually doing something when we all know it's spin and without any substance or detail!

You have to wonder how much public funds have been invested in the EAS to recover the £200K in question!

Talking about EAS spin - and no substance...

As you know the government promised in November 2009, to ban up-front fees charged to walk-on's and supporting artists, from October 2010.

Well expect an announcement shortly!
