| The BBC has many enemies among its corporate rivals. But public pressure has saved it before, and can save it again. We'll be delivering our petition against the cuts to the BBC Trust later this week - please add your voice now: http://38degrees.org.uk/stop-the-BBC-cuts | ||

| Petitions like this annoy me because people are signing it before knowing what is actually going to get cut and forgetting the fact that cuts in digital/online content are probably neccessary to prevent job losses. Also, people object to things on principle even when they have never used the service that is actually getting cut! And if the alternative was an increase in the cost of the TV license, well I am guessing more people would object to and be affected by that decision than the BBC axeing some digital radio station. As I understood it the proposed cuts are so they can spend 90p in very £1 on content and new programming... which in theory should benefit us actors. | |

| The BBC isn't perfect, but the people pushing for these cuts want to destroy it, not to improve it. The Times, owned by media baron Rupert Murdoch, responded to news of the cuts by describing the BBC as "bloated", and calling for further cuts such as closing Radio 1. Last autumn, his son James Murdoch gave a speech calling for the BBC to be forced to become "far, far smaller". The BBC is expected to propose making massive cuts to its service, including closing two radio stations and halving the size of its web site. Commercial rivals have been lobbying hard for the BBC to be cut, and it's on the brink of giving in to the pressure. According to The Times, the proposal is a bid to "shrink" in order to "appease the BBC's rivals." The BBC has many enemies among its corporate rivals. But public pressure has saved it before, and can save it again. | |

| The BBC, along with all other organisations has it's faults. But The BBC is there for everybody, not just the people who want to be in drama, or watch drama. The bbc does a great job in putting new programmes on, yes some of them are a bit tired, but most of the things that I've watched or listened to this year have been put out by the bbc. Wallander, Silent witness, Material Girl, Being human, Mad men......They may not be making them, but they put them on regularly. The bbc website AMAZING. My children can safely play on the cbbc or ceebeebies games. These sites are educational, fun and very kid friendly. The website also has a fantastic catch up service. Not to mention all of the other information that's on there about gardening, cooking...absolutly tons of stuff. I've never listened to the asian network, but I have listened to 6 music and I think it's a great station, playing such varied music, new and old. This is what I use the bbc for, a family of four. I think it would be a travesty if the bbc was to cut services just because some of it's programming doeasn't appeal to the masses. Let's face it, the masses watch x factor, need I say more??? | |

| Let me just point out X Factor is ITV- not the BBC. Reality tv and all the non local content could be the very reason many people in this business are in temp jobs and not working in the profession. If the cuts will in the long term benefit the industry etc I think they are a good thing. The BBC was once a force to be reckjoned with- world reknowned and producing QUALITY tv and film with a well respected management. They overpay their stars, try to sit on the fence etc - I feel there should be necessary cuts if business will thrive in the long run. Jenna is right on the money when she says the cuts will in the long run benefit the industry. Mad men etc are great period pieces, and I think its high quality, but its NOT LOCAL. we have a responsibility to make sure there is more work in an overstaurated industry. Due to the recession The Bill was cut to once a week therefore limiting the amount of actors working. If the unneceesary budgets for reality shows and the gross and - dare I say it- IMMORAL and DECADENT amaounts some of the top BBC stars are paid were balanced out and not mismanaged, the industry would be in a far better place. Sadly, things have to get worse sometimes to get better and if thats gonna happen at the BBC- bring it on! | |

| Blake, I know tha ITV makes x factor, I'm just pointing out that that's what the masses of this country want to watch. The Bill is also made by ITV. I didn't know that they've reduced the show, because I don't watch it. But I do know that it's not all to do with the recession. I know that last year commercials were hit hard, a lot of very old commercials were being dragged back out to save a few quid, but actually ITV's problems were much more than the recession. Last year they made a loss of something like 190 billion. So they've cut absolutuley loads of things, invluding much of ITV yorkshire, which includes the royal. But back to the BBC, yes i agree with you that some of the salaries make me feel sick. It's not a new thing. I remember something like 10 or 15 years ago, Vanessa Feltz earned 1 million from a daytime talk show. The country was up in arms about this, but it didn't stop, it seems to have got much worse. Along with I suspect most people, I would rather see 17 brand new home grown productions next year, than pay the money to Jonathan Ross....not that I don't like hme, I do, I just don't think he's worth 17 million a year.. So cut extortionate wages before cutting services. | |

| I totally agree with you Sarah! We don't want them to cut services...we need them to channel what money they have into new stuff rather than silly salaries! Surely it would be better to keep such great stations as 6 music instead of putting on an extra episode of Eastenders a week (don't get me wrong...I love Eastenders) Also, I really love 6 music...it's such a shame that they're stopping the station...it's much better than the middle of the road pop/rock/r&b stations that are 10 a penny! | |
