| Topic: I think I've had enough... | ||

| I never thought I'd say that, but really it's just wearing me down! I'm rarely called for auditions anymore and no agents seem to want to know. I've got a good CV and went to a good drama school and for the first year after graduating I did well, but the past year has just been really difficult, and I don't know why. I'm aware that my 'type' is common... But grr! I don't mean to sound defeatist but it's really getting me down and I'm not sure what to do anymore! Right. Self involved rant over. | ||

| It's a very overcrowded profession with many more actors than there are acting jobs, so inevitably the work is thinly spread. I don't think there's anything we can do to change that, I'm afraid. Sorry not to have anything more positive to say, but I think it helps to be realistic. It's not you, it's just the numbers! | |

| I always find it's either everything all at once or absolutely nothing! So... you have the everything all at once period surely approaching! :) Stay positive, keeping going for those jobs and it will pay off. The next time you're on stage/set you will be very glad you didn't pack it all in. All the best and I look forward to your next message on here being in the 'Hey that's me' part of the forum! :-D | |

| It's so difficult to remain positive sometimes. I know exactly how you feel and I've questioned many times to myself 'should I give up'. What keeps me going is knowing that even though no work is coming in at the moment and things seem dire, we haven't got a time limit on when we will succeed. It could take 10, 15, or even 30 years to be where we want to be. My advice is this, if you really are considering leaving the profession then take a year out to study something else and build on that. You can always go back to acting when you are more financially stable and there's potentially less competition for your casting. I'm going to take my own advice and take a year out starting this Autumn to do a PGCE with the aim to do supply work. Beats temping in an office. | |

| Hi, I've had a look at your CV/Profile, Shakespeare ,you seem to have done a lot of it. Break away. I have a very good agent, his name is Fintan, there based in Dublin,look up The Entertainment Factory on casting call pro. Send him an email, you can tell Fintan I've recommended you. Breakaway from Shakespeare. Best of Luck | |

| Emily, your posting expresses just how I'm feeling at the moment! These vacuums of inactivity are simply one of the more unpleasant side effects of the profession and we just have to force our way through them with as much good humour and patience as we can muster. Speaking of good humour, I'd like to recommend two books: Michael Green's "The Art of Coarse Acting" and Michael Simkins' "What's My Motivation?". Both are laugh-out-loud and both made me feel better about the whole wretched business! | |
