I would really appreciate your opinions. I've just had some new photos taken and I'd love to know what age bracket you think I fall in to. I won't take offence, I promise! A previous (recent) photo which I submitted for review on CCP came back with wildly varying opinions on playing ages - one of which was more than 20 years adrift from my real age!

I'm not looking for flattery, or even for reassurance, just for honest opinions/views! I went to a screen acting workshop run by a casting director recently and she said that she preferred to know people's real ages, not what they thought their playing ages were.

Hiya Helen.
It's such a lovely photo.
You come across so warm and friendly.

It's tricky to judge somebody's age from a photo, but I think you look your age.

I've heard other people say that you shouldn't put any age down on your profile, but I just always stick with my real age which then gives me about 5 years either side.

Thanks Sarah! Glad you like the photo. But, do you mean that I look my playing age as stated on CCP? Because that's not my real age!

You suffer the same problem as me Helen - if I give my real age to a Casting Director, they don't believe me and wouldn't dream of casting me as that age. I think you look mid to late 30s myself!

Hello Helen! Million-dollar question : is it retouched at all? If not, I'd say late 30s to early 40s. It's a lovely photo and the colour one is really warm. I've been having my headshot assessed on Castnet and the average age came back at 49 when I'm actually 40!!!! Ouch! I imagine they think it's been retouched and the wrinkles that are left in are only half the ones that actually exist. I have to say, the photo in my main headshot looks slightly more wrinkled than I actually do - I think it's the lighting!! (Or maybe my rampant vanity??) Your headshot is beautiful :)

yes I've just got hint of your real age from another post. But I think you should stick with your playing age as on here.
As I said the picture is lovely, but it's very difficult to say, as I've never met you before in person, how old you Actually look. Some actors I've met after seeing their pic and I have been totally shocked that they're putting a photo out there that represents them as they were 20 years ago. Likewise I met another actress last year who I'd put at around 50 from her pic, and it turns out that she was nearer 30...and she looked 30 in real life.
My mum always says that I look younger than what I am...but she's my mum. It's so difficult to get an honest opinion.

You could be a mum to someone on their late teens...but not a granny.

Sorry to have rambled on, and I hope this helps

Sarah

Yes, it's very helpful thank you!

I think I'll leave my playing age where it is. You have described the dilemma very well. I know I look younger than my years in photographs (despite asking the photographers to try to capture my "maturity") but I think when people meet me they recognise me as being as within 5 years or so of my real age.

Any and all other opinions welcome!

It's always difficult to judge from a photo, but from your main one I'd say you look 35/40, lucky you. I always look older.

Hiya

I would defintiely say 35-45, I really wouldn't put you any older than 45 though, not at all.

I have the same problem too, I'm 35 this year and I don't look my age (or act it actually) LOL
