I'm really not one to rant in public, but this really wound me up! I just saw a casting call on another site from a director who has been doing fringe work for a good few years:

"Casting for a recorded rehearsed staged reading of new play. No fee but useful for showreel."

Since when would a recording of a rehearsed reading of a stage play be useful for any kind of a showreel?!?!?!? Please give us actors a bit of credit for having some common sense...

The mind boggles! (and i bet there's a phrase you won't have heard for a while)

of course! We actors are so insecure and desperate to be seen that we'll take any scraps they toss at us! Having been in the fringe scene for years he needs to come back to the real world...actors have rent and bills to pay to remember!
