| I think it is unusual - but I have encountered similar practices before. The most likely explanation is that the agent/agency concerned also has an interest in offering services for casting directing, and I would hope that, although they may be identified under the title of the agency, the agency interest will be totally divorced from the matter of casting. I would hope the casting would run entirely in the manner of any equivalent standard casting. Some agencies do set up reciprocal agreements with certain companies to supply the majority of the cast, and then expand their interests to cast others for parts they cannot fill who are not on their own books. Some, more simply, as I say, have a sideline in casting directing. From your point of view, I don't see any drawback to it - the casting should still function normally, and it may (if you're interested) be brining you to the attention of an agency that may wish to use your skills in future projects. The downside of agencies that double as casting directorates is really more on the side of the clients of said agency - there will be benefits to being represented by such an agency (e.g. regular work on projects being cast by the agency is likely), but, at the same time, pursuing two lines of business halves the time the agent/agents can put into the matter of selling their clients more widely, so may be also detrimental to them in other ways. From your point of view, though, I don't see a problem. | |

![]() anonymous | I agree with Lee - I recently had an audition for a feature film through an agency I am registered with who now seem to have diversified into casting, too. They are a well-known, respected agency in London and Bath and the casting was very professional. Best of luck with it - both of you! :) |
