Topic: Is it worth the money?

Hi I'm in desperate need of new headshots - last had mine done 5 years ago. I've seen a couple of photographers sites and one in particular looks amazing but is charging over £200 quid for an hour session. Is it worth spending that amount of money or can it be done cheaper but just as well? Welcome all advice please!!!

Hi Brinny,

I had mine re-done last year with Diego Indraccolo, who only charges £60 (not sure if it's £60 or £65 now) per session for Casting Call Pro members.

And he was fab!!!! No kiddin', I actually liked what he did more than previous photo sessions with other more expensive photographers.

So go for it, I'd highly recommend him.

The important thing to remember is: bring a variety of clothes with different necklines and colours, to bring out the kind of person/actor you are. And...just relax and enjoy the session!

x Ava.

Sorry correct that. He is an expensive photographer who would usually charge £200 per session. But he does this concession for CCP members. So you get the £200 quality shoot, but at a discounted price! :)

Hiya

I've tried both. A couple of years ago I paid about £200 for a london photographer and I hated the session. He didn't make me feel at ease, made me feel that I was wasting his time...spoke about himself an awful lot....He took quite a few shots, but I didn't have many good ones to choose from. I am very photogenic, so this came as a surprise to me, I obviously wasn't made to feel good about myself...most of them looked dead behind the eyes. I actually could go on and on about how awful it was.
On the other hand, I've spent £75 for an hour and having loads to choose from. Michael Pollard was calm, caring and positive. He didn't waste our time by taking tons of shots of me blinking or looking the other way...so I came away with 2 sheets to choose from insted of 5 shots.

Good luck with your choice.

Brilliant thanks girls I'll look into both of those. Don't want to spend out 200 quid when it can be done just as well for less! x

Hello! I saved up ( a bit from each job for several jobs!) and had mine done with John Clark, who isn't cheap, but I wanted to give myself the best chance of getting a casting. I think it's really important tom invest in your headshot, because it;s usually the first thing that a casting director sees and if it doesn't express your casting type and face accurately then either you get called to unsuitable castings or you don't get called to anything. Cheap-looking headshots say bad quality actor. You don't need reels and reels of shots just two good B/W ones (one neutral, one smiling) and a good colour shot. John Clark really, really knows what he's doing with people's faces and how to shoot them and he photoghraphs more headshots than anyone else by a long chalk. It feels painful, but I didn't want to be saying "Well, maybe if I'd paid the extra so-much I'd have got a better chance at castings...." Check out his website, anyone for an idea of the quality and compare it with the cheaper ones. :) Good luck!!

And don't forget to use the CCP Photographers Directory. You can easily see a photographer's style, find out prices, even ask other CCPers how they found the session and end results.

I would suggest Daniel Sutka. He did my shots for a damn site less than £200 .And I think he did a very good job indeed. But your choice is not just about money. Will the person in the shots put you at ease and show you in the light you wish to be shown in.
But feel free to look him up online, hes a lovely bloke ,fairly central when I saw him about a year ago.
I would not pay £200 unless I thought I really had to.Or I had cash to blow.More is not always more.Less is sometimes just right.
