It was with great personal sadness that I learned of the sudden death of my best mate in the business, Dean Julian. He died long before his due time and just after the run at the Old Vic.
Without doubt he has got to have been the most easy going, hard working and friendliest person anyone who knew him would attest and if you had the privilege to work with him you would agree I'm certain.
His passing will leave a hole in my world as I'm sure it will in many others.
I will always remember my Best Mate in this business.

I certainly do agree, Alan. I only had the privilege of working with Dean for the first time last year, but he was such a great guy that, by the time we'd finished the run, I felt like I had known him for years. We kept in touch ever since, and I know that everyone who has ever worked with him will sorely miss him, because he was such a beacon of determination, talent and, more than anything, downright hilarity! I sincerely believe I have never met anyone who was a better Shakespearean clown, and it's a tragedy that his ambition to perform *every* Shakespearean clown's part in the course of his career can now never be realised. Dean's loss is truly a great loss, but we all know that his memory will live on for years to come, which is a true epitaph to him.

I was delighted he took the part of Snout in the cast of our play in Dubai this year only for , at the last minute almost literally, for him to be thrust the dual roles of Philostrate and Quince. Without batting an eyelid he accepted both roles and did them magnificently!
You're right, Lee. In this sometimes pretentious world in which we work it is refreshing and also humbling to work with someone like Dean who just 'got on with the job' and never got involved with the wranglings!

It's really sad news for me - and a bit of a shock. He was someone I'd always hoped to have worked with again.

I met Dean on my first "proper" stage acting exploit - he was very supportive and great company: both in the bar - and during the long walks back to our digs. I learned a lot from him that week ... which has served me well ever since.

He will be missed.

So sorry to hear the news Alan, have just had a look at Dean's page and he seemed so young. An experienced and what seems dedicated actor denied an ongoing prosperous life. My condolences go to his family, you and everyone else that knew him and worked with him.

The news devastated all of us at The Old Vic where Dean was one of the supernumaries. We all felt quite bereft and the news shocked the main company, Kevin and David included, as well as all the supers. He had a lovely sense of humour and I will miss his little asides as we line up for the curtain call. I only met him for the first time at the auditions but feel that I've lost a long term friend. RIP Dean.

Dean had the amazing ability to make all those around him relax and his reliability was never in question. I had the great privilege of learning the Art of Relaxation on set with him.
He'll be missed by all of the people he ever worked with in this Business.

I am really shocked! I have just seen this thread and I trained at the same time as Dean at drama School. He was a really lovely guy. Talented, funny and great fun. I had no idea. If it is the same person that I know then my heart goes out to his family and friends at this sad time. I bumped into him last at The Ecetera theatre in the summer.

What a sad loss.

I had no idea until I read this link. Dean was a wonderful actor and a thoughtful, caring and hilarious gentleman. What a tremendous loss, thoughts go to his family x

I've just returned from Dean's funeral. A church full of family and friends.I had only known him for a short while but I recognised evreything his nlong term friends and relatives were saying. Definitely what you saw was what you got. A fellow of most infinite jest and mirth his coffin entered the church to the Laurel and Hardy theme music and although a sad occasion it was very much a celebration of the all too short life of a unique individual. We'll all miss you Dean but will remember the laughter and generosity of spirit.
