Hello,

I sent my details 2 weeks ago to a top casting director regarding the casting for a massive film being cast at the moment. I posted it directly into their letter box.

When and how do you think I should follow it up? Phone call? Post? Also, what do you say?
"Hey, so... do ya like me??"

Thanks guys

If twas open call did it say 'we'll be in touch'.. or when audition calls were-- if it did don't do anything until they call (or dont) if they dont you know u werent successful-- if they do they'll tell u when audition is????????

thanks for your comment.

What do you mean "if self why?"
Because I feel that in this industry you have to do your best to try and make things happen for yourself. Just work hard and get yourself out there. If you don't put yourself out there then I doubt things will happen for you, unless your lucky.

Thanks again for your comment. Oh yeah, direct into their letter box by hand.

All the best

this is a tough one.
i completely agree with you about getting yourself out there and making it happen. If I advise you to sit tight and wait.... would you tolerate that? or will it nag at you? chances are they would by all means take a look at your profile/resume and already have made a decision.

though I could be wrong.

Always a tricky issue, the unsolicited application. The logic is, naturally, to assume that if they are interested, they will be getting in touch, and honestly, I don't there is ANYONE in the industry to whom that does not apply...if you are felt to meet a need, and prove of immediate interest, then, by and large, people will not delay in getting in contact with you - they are eager to ensure that your interest is retained, availability kept up etc. as you are to land the role.

With that said, feature development is a long and complex process - it is certainly possible that a casting director is holding off on casting supporting parts (if you were aiming for a supporting part?) until such time as the more extensive parts are cast - these have to be their priority. If you were literally placing your CV etc. with them on spec (i.e. without a specific casting in mind), it is even likelier that they will 'get around' to processing the application when they can. So, *just* because you haven't heard anything yet doesn't mean that no notice has been taken.

I would continue to give the opportunity time to breathe (say, hold off for another 2 weeks or so, so a month has passed - I assume principal photography is not starting before that) and then 'risk' a follow up call to the office. As ever with these things, I think being honest about your interest and pointing out, politely, that you delivered a CV in the hope of being considered for a part in 'Project X' is the right thing to do. Your query is simply did they receive the application? No more and no less. They will either at this point say yes, thank you or no (i.e. they probably did, but would prefer to pretend otherwise, as they are not interested in taking things further). Thank them for giving you this information and taking the time to speak to you. Then get off the phone and leave things. If they are interested, you know that a) they have your information safely to hand and b) have been reminded of your interest.

Honestly, I don't think you can push for much more than this, with someone you don't even have the slimmest personal connection with. Casting directors pride themselves on taking their own decisions, and they are not stupid: they know exactly that you are speaking to them in the hope that they will say, 'Oh yes, do you know, we were just waiting to get in contact to offer you a job.' They don't want you to 'persuade' them that you would be ideal for them: they wish to make that decision for themself.

Still, I don't think there is anything wrong in politely phrased follow-ups - no-one should be 'blacklisting' you because you are attempting to get your face known and to advance your career - most casting directors are sympathetic to where you are coming from in principle, and really do wish you well. Where they sometimes have difficulties is in knowing that they haven't got jobs available to give to all interested parties, and it makes them feel awkward to have to deter people's enthusiasm - so they can sometimes be stand-offish in order to cover this. And sometimes you *are* striking lucky as you chat to them - but, rest assured, you want to come across as always professional and trustworthy, not like you're pushing anything!

No dude - just if it is a big movie as you suggest then would be better to go through your agent no?? Has more clout - even if you detail them as to what you want them to do -- if you currently dont have an agent -- then i applaud - very much for doing it- hv been for years-- but truth is if it is a big movie - they will send breakdowns to top cd's who will contact favoured agents who will put selected actors forward to dcs who might cull further and then present to director- producer of movie-- sorry man but that's just how it is-- why?? I think someone said- they need to cut down time and chances of casting person being seen as funking up on 'em by supplying a wrong choice..

If they cant find ( as someone else- The Mighty Lee i think said) cause it is very specific it comes down like a tier heirarchy system to more open sites or open castings-- s'why it is so imortant to get an agent- and if you want big movies - a bigger agent-- and top billing a top agent within that top agency !!!!! Long road dude!!!

occaisionally - very occaisionally there will for some reason be a good movie cast on open sites at the beginning - but then it'll be broadcast

all for the cheeky way in - remember i always said there is a back door-- but just because yuo fancy a movie - hey great you did the detective work-- did you tell em you did -- coz you should have-- brownie points for you -- if yuo didn;t why not after going to all that -- it cold occaisionally sway it with em-- if they get impressed enough !!! Otherwise am afraid if it is unsolicited often they either get annoyed or indifferent and it just bypasses em (goes in the bin) !

Such is the way of the buis!!! If i were you i'd find out where the cd- or producer plays golf and 'bump' into them!! Very expensive and a long shot (literally) !!
