| hey mark. im a BADC teacher and have been involed in stage combat for over 10 tears. i am also an experienced fighter in muaythai boxing, i'll be competing in brazilian ju-jitsu very soon and by the end of next year will have a fight in the cage..im slowly training to become a fully qualified equity fight director and most of my work is based around stage combat performance even tho i am also a trained actor from the good old days at East15..i have weapons experience, done a training corse with the sas and had knife combat skilles taught by a knife specialist "and i mean top dog bloody scary specialist who has the real experience" it all sounds nice but it all comes down to one thing mate...the audition..from my experience at the moment its hard to convince employers that it is a specialist skill and if you want it to look good you need people who are well trained and can do it...ive had 2 auditions this last week were the job includes combat skills. the one job is in a popular theatre, directed by a BIG TIME director and casted by a BIG TIME casting director and the problem is....they will and always have gone with people they personally know, regardles of skill..the other audition was for a massive massive panto company, there fight director has been working them hard for ages about having people with the skills to do the job right and thankfully after a long and tiring audition with actors and dancers, the producers understood and admited it is the right idea. thats all i can say mate...ive gone up for jobs which is stage combat heavy but it means nothing to some people, my advice is keep training and working on it, the better your skill in stage combat the more employers who give you a job will think wow, and remember you, thats how its worked for me thank god. | |

| I am looking to get accredited stage combat training. Where are the best places to train in London? I've come across a site called RC Annie, are they any good? Thanks, Esther | |

| Esther, RC Annie are absolutely brill - can;t recommend them highly enough. Mark, are you registered on the Equity stunt register ? Perhaps Equity can help/provide more info/direction. Other than that, I think it's like any aspect of this industry, source jobs everywhere, build up contacts, keep in touch with those who train you as they will also often work in a professional capacity, as well as teaching. See if BADC or BSSC have any links on websites etc... | |
