| Died 13/01/2009 R I P Patrick Mcgoohan. In my mind one of the finest actors this country has ever produced. He was not a number, He was a free man. With a voice to make Burton green with envy. Condolences to his family. | ||

| A great actor, I always remember his fantastic performance as Brand in the film version of Ibsen's play circa late 1950's. | |

| I always loved Patrick McGoohan in 'Hell Drivers' a classic British bit of social realism, with just about every British character actor of the time including a pre Bond Sean Connery! Go watch! | |

| At the risk of sounding like the total 'Prisoner' geek I am, I would direct any interested parties to two absolutely standout performances by McGoohan in the eponymous series. The episode 'Once upon a Time' is a masterclass in intense, head-to-head performing, with Leo McKern also in magnificent form, as we watch the two antagonists fight a virtually Beckettian battle of wits. It is often forgotten that McGoohan also wrote the episode - truly one of the series' finest. And for anyone who recently admired Daniel Day - Lewis's wordless 30 minute opening performance in 'There will be Blood', it should be noted that McGoohan got there first - 'Many Happy Returns', although it degenerates into something of a standard espionage thriller in the second half, has an unbearably intense beginning, featuring McGoohan, no scripted dialogue, and an empty landscape against which he must struggle singlehandedly - again, fantastic work that any actor would be proud to have produced. Great man, great work. 'Nuff said. | |
