Recognized for his vocal strength, passionate lyricism, and compelling performances, Kevin has performed on most of Canada's major stages as well as London's famed West End, Hawaii and Alaska. Kevin has appeared in two Tony Award winning musicals: Over 1500 performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, directed by the legendary Harold Prince. As part of the original International cast (Livent) he appeared regularly in the role of Monsieur Andre. Kevin appeared as
Tiny Tom in the 2004 Canadian premiere (CanStage) of the Tony and Dora Award winning Urinetown: the Musical, directed by (John Rando-best director). He also performed the role of Cogsworth in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Kevin made his debut with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in 2002 to sell-out audiences, standing ovations and rave reviews: "Power's interpretation of 'Music of the Night' better than that of Michael Crawford who originated the role (Phantom)". His self-produced show BroadwayCabaret/BroadwayJazz toured Canada three times in the 2003-04 season with Canadian jazz pianist Richard Whiteman. Additional credits include: Rooster, Annie; Man 2, I Love you, You're Perfect, Now Change; Rabbi/Perchick(u/s), Fiddler on the Roof; Baron Zeta, The Merry Widow; Billy Crocker, Anything Goes; and Swing, Candide. Kevin has originated several roles including the outrageous "Wind" in the newly restored Canadian Operetta Leo, The Royal Cadet (Toronto Operetta Theatre) in which Opera Canada declared: "Actor/Singer Kevin Power stole the show…". Additionally Kevin originated the role of Pete in the world premier of Rex Deverall/Quentin Doolittle's opera Boiler Room Suite both in Canada and the United Kingdom, and the roles of Billy/Bearkeeper in The Banff Centre-Welsh National Opera co-production of Tornrak.
In 2006 Power made his film role debut as "Tom" in Why I Wore Lipstick to my Mastectomy, a Lifetime movie-of-the-week directed by Peter Werner. Power played opposite the legendary singer Patti Labelle. Roles in recently released movies include "Repo! The Genetic Opera (Lionsgate) and "The Horsemen" (Mandate Pictures).
Classically, Kevin has performed with the Tudor Singers of Montreal, The Montreal Opera and Montreal Symphony Ensembles. He is an accomplished counter-tenor and has appeared with members of Studio Music Ancienne de Montreal as the alto in Handel's Messiah. Kevin is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (B.Mus., Music Theory/Composition/Voice), and a recipient of the Murray Adaskin Composition Scholarship. Kevin has also joined forces with Canadian playwright Ian C. Nelson, co-writing the new play Double Blind which was selected for workshop in the Saskatchewan Playwrights 2003 Festival. Hailed by reviewers as "the one not to miss!", Double Blind has since been listed in the Literary Manager's and Dramaturgs of the America's Script Exchange.
