SYNOPSIS Mark Browne has spent most of his young life either "working for The Man" or drinking for himself. At the start of a stinking hot summer, Mark injures his leg in a workplace accident. He lands himself on compo and is forced to deal with his new life of being stuck on the front verandah. Here, he sees his fellow Australians walk past on their way to the shops across the street; and Mark does not like what he sees. CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS Mark Browne- blonde haired, working class Ocker Aussie; he's rattled by the seemingly shrinking number of White Aussies in his Western Sydney neighbourhood. Mark's outer need is to validate his bigoted view of the world. His inner need is to understand an ever changing and increasingly difficult world. Davo Allen- brown haired, new generation Aussie; perpetual uni student, steeped in the glory and goodness that multiculturalism is bestowing upon his country; especially because it means an exotic smorgasboard of women at his fingertips. Benjamin Smithe- the egotistic, English-born neighbour who speaks incessantly of the glory of the Mother Country and the repugnance of this "lost colony". Gupta Sumjay- the money-loving Indian neighbour who works an inordinate amount of jobs and is always trying to invent new marketable products. Kylie Campbell- the hot, young Aussie neighbour who wears nothing but singlets and thong(s). She's a "stripper with a heart of gold". African Man- newly arrived immigrant; he assimilates quickly and identifies with the latest fashions on the hip-hop scene.
